Long delayed update

Well, it's been a while since I've found the time to write on this site, and I really am not too keen on letting this site die a quite death, so I've decided that I'm going to write at least once a week here from now on.

College has been going rough on me, it has finally caught up with the classes I took back home in India, and now I have to work myself very hard in order to keep up, let alone do well. RPI certainly isn't a piece of cake, and I think I underestimated the place when I decided to come here. It seems to be a good school, and the professors here are really nice.

College Theory

Hello.
It's 4:00 am in the morning as I write this entry. For anyone who knows me, you know that this means I've not gone to bed yet. For the rest of you, I'll just let you know that I cannot remember the last time I have ever woken up so early, although often i've gone to bed much later than this.

New logo.

I am in the process of choosing a new site logo and am in the process of making one. So tell me what you think of the current logo. Soon I'll put up a list of possibilites, and I'd love to hear what you like and why you like it. Thanks

SPACE Day 3

This is going to be a short post, because there are not a lot of things that I did today. Most of my work revolved around adding the finishing touches to the newsflash block that I had created on day one. I detailed exactly what I did, and how I did it in an article that I posted on the website earlier today. That article is located here.

Creating a Newsflash block on your site

On my first day at SPACE I was asked if I could create a newsflash block for the project. And this is how tackled it.

The requirements of the block were

  1. It should source content from the system.
  2. There should be an easy way to add news and have it instantly reflected in the block.
  3. It should attract attention to itself by changing its background color.
  4. It should cycle the elements in the list like a news ticker.

SPACE Day 2

Today was my second day at work. Now I'm inclined to think that the day was rather productive, but I cannot be too sure. I mean the only benchmark I have to compare it with was yesterday. I don't even know how much work the other people working on this project got finished today.

SPACE Day 1

Today I started my internship at SPACE. For those of you who don't know, SPACE is an organization in Kerala that works to promote the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS/FLOSS) in a plethora of fields. I first heard of SPACE when I attended the Free Software Free Society conference in Trivandrum in December 2008. During the conference I learnt that SPACE is developing websites for local Panchayats (local administrative bodies that are the most basic level of governance in India) using the Drupal CMS. Since I was slightly familiar with Drupal (its what I used to develop this website) I decided that I'd like to come here and contribute to the project.
